Everything about this backpackers screams true Wild Coast living. They are completely off the grid, have no municipal water and only rely on harvesting rain water. The Mdumbi river mouth’s beautiful beaches and crystal clear water makes for the perfect swimming, diving, fishing, and surfing. Come check out the perfect right hand point breaks that make Mdumbi the surf destination that it is. This place has plenty of adventures to offer, hiring out boards, rod and reels, and lessons on it all! They are also offering scenic boat tours, horse back riding, kayaking, cultural dancing, and even learning how to make the delicious local bread.

Freedom O Clock features a cozy communal kitchen perfect for social evenings. It comes fully equipped, but offers limited space for self-catering at dinner time. BUT they serve delicious home cooked dinners daily, featuring their own organic vegetables and fresh caught seafood. Lunch and breakfast are available upon request, and you have the self-catering option.
They love interacting and chatting to their guests about their beautiful area and country. They also love learning about the different cultures of their guests. Meet their spirited daughter, raised in the Transkei and fluent in the local language. She makes for the most interesting of teachers!
Some facts to know: Located off the beaten track, it is still accessible by a non 4-wheel drive vehicle but high clearance vehicles are recommended. Shuttles can be arranged from Mthatha and Coffee Bay. Be sure to bring along your favorite treats, the shops can be quite limited.
